House of Sky and Breath | Part I Prologue-Ch.18

DISCLAIMER: SPOILERS AHEAD!

This month I am going to try to take notes chapter by chapter because I just know so much is going to happen and I don’t want to miss commenting on a second of it.

Prologue

Humans making the drop is pretty cool (even though it’s rare)! I know we saw an Asteri centered view in Book 1, so are we getting the human/rebel centered view in Book 2?

We are immediately introduced to Sofia, the human with Vanir blood, who is attempting to save her brother from a very Holocaust-esque camp situation. I’m wondering what being a thunderbird actually means. I am intrigued. I am guessing it has something to do with controlling electricity, hence the ease of killing the dreadwolves standing in the water.

Also, WHO is Agent Silverbow? Is he someone we met in Book 1? And, are him and Sofie romantically linked?

Ch. 1+2

So Bryce is a celeb now? What joy lol! And Fury and Juniper moved in together! SQUEEE. Also, I like the little smidge of normalcy we get to see in their chaotic lives as Hunt joins the friend group (by proxy) of June, Fury, and B. The talk of new archangels is curious.

I have to comment on the fact that Bryce and Hunt are waiting until Winter Solstice to get physical, and while I respect it, I don’t like it (simply because I love me a spicy scene and now I’ll just have to wait).

Ch. 3 + 4

Ruhn playing the bad boy image is so funny to me because I just know he’s not one. The mirthroot and sex sprees math be fun, but I just know he’s a teddy bear at heart.

Speaking of Bryce’s familial bonds, the Autumn King promising Bryce to Cormac makes me want to vomit. Literally. But, seeing as she has such a strong support system, especially after Danika, warms my heart.

And Ithan came back to her! I’m tearing up. I knew their friendship couldn’t be over!

Ch. 5-7

The worlds are colliding! Tharion was ordered to search for Sofie’s body! Lowkey morbid, but okay. And is she alive?! Oh how the turn tables!

Back to Bryce and Ithan: I would love to see them become friends again.

Now onto Hypaxia (this jumps from character to character fast): he half sister is the Hind!? No way!!!

And as we well know, the Autumn King is an asshole and Ruhn deserves all the happiness in the world.

Ch. 8-10

I am here for Bryce and Jesiba’s odd friendship.

Speaking of Bryce, what is up with her star power igniting every time Cormac is around? I do not accept that it is because their union is destined. That’s a load of crap.

Onto the new archangels: I so badly want to believe that Celestina is genuinely good, but I have a lingering pit in my stomach that says she’s not. Is it my SJM trauma?

Lastly, for these chapters, Isaiah deserves to be free. All the slaves do.

Ch. 11-12

I like that we are seeing more of Tharion and the River Queen he works for. I’m wondering where this will lead us.

And of course Danika was somehow involved with Sofie. Why am I not surprised? I love that we keep finding out more and more about her. All the storylines are starting to collide and reveal an even bigger shit show.

Also, are we all wondering when the Asteri are going to be dismantled? At least for now we get another moment of normalcy as Ruhn, Flynn, Dec, Hunt, Ithan, and Bryce all eat pizza and joke around.

Ch. 13-15

Ember Quinlan is so fucking funny in her motherly way of scolding Bryce at every moment she gets, forever proving that even the baddest of bad asses can get scolded by their moms.

Side note: not that the first book was rushed, but this one definitely seems more fleshed out and detailed in terms of character development. I’m wondering if we are going to learn more about Fury and who/what she is.

And the big reveal of chapter 15: Cormac is Agent Silverbow?! He’s a rebel?! I am speechless!

Ch. 16-18

I cannot wait to see where this story is taking us after that reveal! I am truly shocked by Cormac. Is is crazy that I’m Team Cormac and I’m hoping he brings everyone to the side of the rebels? Hunt was already there, as we know, and I know he’s just hesitant because of what happened with him getting forced into servitude. I just have a feeling everyone in that room will be joining the rebel cause, and I know—or at least suspect—that it will turn out in their favor eventually (even if they go through a lot of hardships and loss).

And FINALLY!! I am so so so glad Bryce and Hunt chose not to wait until Winter Solstice hehehehe. But does deciding to keep pretending that she’s engaged to Cormac mean we will still have to wait? Aren’t their scents going to intermingle? Are my dreams of living through Bryce and Hunt’s spicy life going to be crushed?

And to end this week’s reading with some comedic relief, the scene with Ithan and the star sword had me dying. I can’t believe that actually led to finding Danika’s old research!

I cannot put this book down! So far, 6 stars! Chat next week! Happy reading!
