People We Meet on Vacation | Movie Review
Poppy and Alex were brought to life with this movie adaptation, and when I tell you the casting was PERFECT! Emily Bader was and is the perfect Poppy Wright. Tom Blythe was obviously an amazing Alex Nielsen, but he’s amazing in everything so I am not surprised. I truly just couldn’t take my eyes off of Emily the entire time.
As for the minor changes from book to movie, I truly didn’t mind them and do not think they took away from the story at all. I am the first to say that books are ALWAYS more detailed than movies, but they have the luxury of being so. The story wasn’t drastically changed, and for that, I appreciate it in all its beauty.
Side note, I hear almost all of Emily Henry’s books are being adapted to film and tv, and I am going to cry from joy. She is my favorite rom-com author and to see her vision come to life is such an amazing experience for the fans.
Also, the obvious use of color to tell Poppy and Alex’s story was genius! Looking through the color wheel lens, you can literally track when they are most disconnected (being at opposite ends of the color wheel) and when they become united (being next to each other on the color wheel).
Overall, an enjoyable experience. No movie will ever live up to the book it was adapted from, but that does not take away from the art.
